Welcome to the official fundraising page of the 2017 Northern High School Mini-THON! We are excited to kick off another year of fighting for a cure. Childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease for children in the United States. At Northern High School we are fighting to change that. All the money raised by the 2017 NHS Mini-THON will benefit the Four Diamonds whose mission is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Children's Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research. Each year, Four Diamonds provides direct support to approximately 600 children with cancer – 100 who are newly diagnosed and 500 who are continuing their fight. Since its creation in 1972, Four Diamonds has helped more than 3,500 children and families and supported a diverse platform of pediatric cancer research at Penn State Children's Hospital, seeking improved treatments and cures to benefit those around the world.

Four Diamonds Mini-THONs are fun-filled events for students of all ages which inspire teamwork, leadership, and creativity while empowering young people through philanthropy and service in the fight to conquer childhood cancer. Mini-THONs are modeled after the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), and have been making a difference in the lives of childhood cancer patients and their families for more than 20 years.  With over 235 schools and 70,000 student volunteers in five states, Mini-THONs are bringing hope to families in need and creating a legacy of service within their community. During the 2015 – 2016 school year, these elementary, middle and high schools raised over $5.5 million for Four Diamonds.

On January 20th 2017, we officially kicked off our NHS Mini-THON 2017 Fundraising Season! Our kickoff assembly included a skit inspired by the theme for the NHS Mini-THON 2017, "Around the World: Joining Hands for a Cure." In addition, fourteen generous students and staff members reminded us that money is not the only thing needed by children fighting cancer. Together, they donated 120 inches of hair so that cancer patients can have real hair wigs.
