On March 31, 2019, our world was turned upside down when our 3-year-old daughter, Kennedy, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Since then, she has endured an 8-hour brain surgery, multiple chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplant. We came home from the hospital on July 24, 2019, one day before her 4th birthday. She has been cancer-free since that day but still faces ongoing challenges due to the side effects of treatment.
This December, we invite our family, friends and community to join us in completing 1 million steps and raising funds for Four Diamonds, an organization that has done so much for our family and so many others.
Four Diamonds’ mission is to conquer childhood cancer. They assist children and their families by providing financial support, world-class care and life-saving research. As a Four Diamonds family, we never saw a single bill for Kennedy’s care and treatment at Penn State Children’s Hospital. They also assist with various travel expenses, food and bills.
It isn’t just the financial support that makes Four Diamonds such an incredible organization. It’s the specialty care providers like Child Life specialists, social workers, art and music therapists, and so many more. All of these wonderful individuals knew Kennedy, what she liked, what she didn’t like, and when she needed time to herself. What’s even more amazing is that they knew me. They checked on me, supported me, laughed with me, cried with me and became my family.
Nothing can make the pain of watching your child go through such a devastating time disappear. But Four Diamonds helps to ease the burden financially and emotionally. Our family can never thank Four Diamonds enough for everything they have done and continue to do for us, but we have an idea and we need your help!
