Thank you for visiting the Courageous Kids fundraising page. Our team celebrates the courage and strength of all children who face adversity at such a young age. Our team has two boys whose lives intersected in the playroom in the old Children's Hospital some 5 years ago. While both of these boys (and their families) didn't know what to expect in the years to come, they bravely faced each day and maintained a positive spirit that helped them get through the hardest days.
Dylan was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer in October 2012, about one month before he turned two. He spent the better part of the next two years in the hospital going through chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and two transplants. Helping Dylan and his family through this were the music therapists and child life specialists. Four Diamonds supports the work of these individuals as well as the valuable research that provided Dylan a path to being cancer free. I am happy to say that Dylan has been cancer free for the past two years and will begin 1st grade this year.
Kai was diagnosed with leukemia September 11th, 2012 at the age of 21 months. Three years later, as we were working our way to the end of Kai's original treatment plan, his leukemia relapsed September 23rd, 2015. As Kai starts first grade, he is also preparing to get his last chemo on October 1st. This years Conquer Walk is on September 23rd, the two year anniversary of Kai's relapse and one week before Kai's scheduled end of chemo. So, to say the least, this years Conquer Walk has some extra emotion for our family.
